With
the increasing population
of
the country there is a
sharp rise in crimes like drug trafficking, smuggling,
robbery, theft, etc. The rapid stride in the
field
of
communication
and
transportation have made the
information accessibility and movement
of
criminals much
easier. Combating these problems have given rise to new
challenges
to
the police. For effect;vely combating all these
evils, police requires adequate capacity building
of
its
personnel. Under the rapidly changing scenario,
restructuring
of
initial training programmes followed by
in-service training
to
all officials can meet the requirements
in
a more efficient
manner.
Better police administration can
be ensured by better training, therefore,
in
order to make
police training more effective there is
an
urgent need for a
restructured training strategy.
In
this article an attempt has
been made to study the training
of
police
officers in
Himachal Pradesh.
INTRODUCTION
THE DICTIONARY meaning
of
'training' is instruction and discipline
in a particular art, profession
or
occupation.
It
is the systematic
imposition
of
skilled knowledge to all categories
of
civil servants for
their advancement and efficiency in service. Training is a planned process
to modify attitudinal knowledge, skill, behaviour, etc. through learning
to acguire effective performance in an activity or range
of
activities. 1
According to A.D Gorwale, the general conception
of
training is a mixture
of
many elements. "In one sense, training means the imparting
of
