Competency monitoring is
an
important human resource
tool
for
the organisations to guide human resource
practices .such as selection, assessment, career
management, employee development, and performance
appraisal, etc. Capacity building in core competency
development
is
not a goal
in
itself, but it
is
the path
to
the
key organisational goal, namely a more
ejfec~ive
and
efficient organisational performance. After recruitment,
initiatives concerning training, on-the-job learning and
career management become components
of
an
integrated
approach.
An
organisation
itself
cannot develop an
employees competencies, but can only create a stimulating
environment
and
provide practical tools to
offer
the
employee the best possible opportunity to develop his/her
competencies. It
is
then the responsibility
of
the employee
to seize this opportunity
and
to develop
his/her
competencies accordingly.
INTRODUCTION
HYPER-COMPETITIVE marketplace, technological advancements, strict
compliance to regulatory norms and advent
of
Generation Y - are some
of
the challenges that spice· up the environment for Leadership Team
of
any large corporate. The organisations which adopt a proactive approach
to address these needs are the ones that are successful.
The question, therefore, is what needs to be done from a strategic
perspective, which will enable the corporate to build a robust organisation,
ready
to
face any
of
the diverse challenges?
As they say, the most important resource
of
any organisation is its
human resource.

the organisation is focused on the people aspect, the
