INTRODUCTION
Personal laws occupy a unique position in today's age and play a pivotal
role in keeping the society within moral and civil bonds. Matrimonial
Jurisprudence and constitutional claims of women are the main themes of
these volumes, which has been explored by the author in depth. Justice Ajit
Prakash Shah has aptly observed, in the Foreword to the book, that the
“primary aim behind writing the present books is to bring a number of
problems in the society to the fore, and not merely to enter into an academic
1
exercise of compilation of information.” Upendra Baxi has rightly
remarked that the books highlight “the imperatives of retooling and
recrafting activist critique in the service of a better future of Women's
2
Rights as Human Rights.”
