mechanisms, raising public awareness and engagement, fostering regional plat-
forms and networks and making use of emerging technologies and diaspora.
Policymakers and researchers are the main beneficiaries of this book as it pro-
vides valuable insights that would guide them to expand the science diplomacy
initiatives at the regional as well as international levels. The book paints an elabo-
rate picture of the benefits and possibilities of collaboration, by utilising an exhaus-
tive set of data and inputs from various references including historical documents,
reports, policy papers, academic institutions, think tanks, statements of ministers,
scientists and academicians. It does not shy away from articulating the challenges in
enhancing science diplomacy in the region and gives several relevant recommenda-
tions and blueprints for the mitigation of these challenges. Science Diplomacy for
South Asian Countries will be helpful for anyone with an interest in science diplo-
macy in general and South Asia in particular. It is also a significant contribution to
the ongoing debate about how to encourage regional cooperation and collaboration
in a world after a pandemic. Goel believes that science diplomacy has the potential
to be an effective tool for traversing boundaries, cultures and academic fields as
well as for promoting sustainability, prosperity and peace in South Asia. The book
serves as a path for utilising science by providing a conceptual framework, analys-
ing case studies and highlighting successful projects.

Vietnam’s stunning economic growth and rising international status in recent
years have generated greater interest in the country’s domestic politics, political
economy and foreign policy. Börje Ljunggren and Dwight H. Perkins’s Vietnam:
Navigating a Rapidly Changing Economy, Society and Political Order aims to
deepen understandings of Vietnam from the 1980s Doi Moi reforms and sketches
out the journey ahead for the nation (p. 2). This edited volume—a collaboration
between Vietnamese and international scholars—offers a more critical contribu-
tion than this self-acknowledgement. Instead of seeing Vietnam’s trajectory
through the lens of US–China rivalry, the book asserts that Vietnam’s future
depends much more on the country’s capabilities to overcome future development
