It's happened at least twice. At two widely-photographed events, Priyanka Chopra has nudged Jean Paul Gaultier and Alberta Ferretti aside to instead slip into a luxurious gown by a young Indian designer. In November 2008, the actor was invited to the unveiling of the decadent Atlantis hotel in Dubai.

She had at her disposal the best couture that money could buy. But she instead chose to wear a mustard-coloured one-shouldered gown by young designer Gaviin Miguel. The designer, whose short dresses have been quite a staple in Chopra's wardrobe, was thrilled. Barely three years in the business of fashion, Swapnil Shinde was grinning as widely when he spotted the lissome Chopra wearing his lime green ruffled gown at the Stardust Awards in February this year. Shinde has styled a few Sunsilk campaigns for Chopra and the actor asked him to design a dress for the awards. "Sales of my long gowns went up by 60 per cent after Priyanka wore them," says Shinde.
