If you are flying into Bangalore, chances are that you will be stuck in a jam: in the air. Once you land, you will again find yourself trapped in bumper-to-bumper traffic. The distance from the airport to city centre is just 10 km but it can take up to an hour or more during rush hour. Bangalore, cruising at supersonic speed on the information technology (it) superhighway, is choking to death as two lakh tech workers often spend two to three hours inching their way to work from home, wasting millions of man hours. It is not just traffic jams. The country's it capital has done the most to transform India's international image but the governmental apathy towards its crumbling infrastructure is what makes it look anything but part of the just-in-time global economy. The contrasts may be stark in Bangalore but they symbolise the pathetic state of infrastructure across the country.
