Fireworks returned to the bourses in May as the broad-based indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty, saw a complete turnaround in fortunes. The volatility seen till April gave way at last as the Sensex sprinted from -3.35 per cent returns in April to 9.11 per cent in May, and the Nifty from -4.1 per cent to 9.73 per cent. Mutual fund (mf) returns reflected this rise, albeit at a slower pace. Still, there was ample reason for investors to rejoice as funds, across categories and sectors, saw striking improvements in their performances. The AUM (assets under management) of the mf industry stood at Rs 1,68,852.48 crore, a rise of 5.98 per cent over the previous month.
