Neewin Hershall is an unlikely name for a Bharatnatyam teacher, but then, the 34-year-old is unlike most people. Surrounded by lush greenery and a bevy of women, he lives and works in what may be many men's idea of an idyll.

At Nrityagram, a dance village outside Bangalore set up by Protima Bedi, propagating the guru-shishya parampara, he is the only male in a campus filled with two dozen beautiful women. "Though I've been here for three years, this is the first time I've realised there are no other men here," insists Hershall. The odd boys' night out is something he has learnt to do without. "I have gotten used to enjoying a drink on my own," he says.
