Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone's Manhattan apartment offers a bouquet of visual delights. The cerulean Hudson River rushes past below while the New York skyline is dotted with cutting-edge design projects. Creating decor that matched the condominium's natty neighbourhood was an uphill task for New York-based interior designer Geoffrey Bradfield. But the biggest challenge for him was to finish the project at a blurring speed. "Being a movie director, my client is used to having film sets constructed overnight. He was expecting a similar schedule with this apartment," says Bradfield. "As much of my work is customised and designed by my company, I had to explain to him that there were certain time frames involved. But I work best under a deadline and we pulled it off.

It seems that Planning Commission chief Montek Singh Ahluwalia was never in the race to succeed Dominique Strauss-Kahn as IMF managing French finance minister Christine Lagarde is now the firm frontrunner, but emerging economies are likely to put up an alternate candidate. Former South African finance minister Trevor Manuel tops the probables. Ahluwalia hasn't emerged as one. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee indicated that India may back a candidate from an emerging economy but made no mention of Ahluwalia.

In December last year, an agitated Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Amar Pratap Singh walked into the prime minister's office (PMO). He complained that his officers were under pressure to go slow in their investigation against the then telecom minister A. Raja. "I will have to work independently if the Government wants this investigation to reach its logical end," said Singh.
